    About Hylke Hopmans, msc.

Hylke already developed a preference for the knee during his training as a physiotherapist and thus ended up at FysioHolland Amsterdam, Oosterpark location in 2009. This practice has long been known as a specialist in ACL rehabilitation. Since then, Hylke has been treating patients with ACL problems on a daily basis.

After completing his regular training as a physiotherapist in Amsterdam in 2009, he soon followed the Master in Sports Physiotherapy at SOMT. In the following years, Hylke developed into a specialist in the field of the lower extremity, with a preference for more complex casuistry. In addition to his work at FysioHolland Oosterpark, he also participates in the knee clinic at the OLVG hospital in Amsterdam. "As a specialized physiotherapist we can be of great added value on the knee clinic for both the patient and the orthopedic surgeon, we can switch quickly and strive for the optimal journey for the patient"

Due to the short lines of communication with various orthopedic surgeons, including intensive collaborations with Dr. van der Hart (Bergman Clinics) and Dr. Mutsearts (OLVG), it is possible (where necessary) to switch quickly and easily. After all, this collaboration contributes to an optimal treatment process for the patient.
Hylke gets a lot of energy from his work; "Bringing an injured athlete, with a strict personal rehabilitation plan, back to return 2 Play is a kick!" Teamwork is of great importance in this, Hylke explains. “You enter a long and serious rehabilitation process with ACL patients. Rehabilitation professionals often set high goals and demand a lot from me as a specialist in ACL rehabilitation. This requires teamwork! Patients can expect a lot from me, but I also ask for maximum effort from the athlete! ” Achieving the desired or higher end result is one of the aspects that give the entire process pride and satisfaction.

During ACL rehabilitation, the difference lies in little things, especially in the early stages. Full commitment in the first phase pays off in an optimal outcome of the total rehabilitation process. For example, Hylke not only pays attention to training the knee, but also pays attention to the entire chain. There is often also training before the operation (pre-ok phase) to appear in the best possible condition for the actual operation. Adjustment and coaching during rehabilitation is of great importance.

Healthcare in 2018 can no longer do without measuring. For years we have been working at FysioHolland Oosterpark with a central final test for ACL patients. A wide range of skills are tested here. This gives a good picture of what final level the ACL revalidant has achieved. In addition to this final test, all our ACL patients are tested both pre- and post-clinically within the TestCentrum Amsterdam. Within this collaboration with SMC Amsterdam, we test every 3 months with the biodex, among other things.

ACL rehabilitation has a major impact for the athlete / rehabilitator, and especially requires a (temporary) large investment in time / energy and adjustments. I believe in good cooperation with the client that enables a successful return to performance!
