About Steven Claes, Prof. Dr.
Prof. dr. The Anterolateral Ligament of the Knee – Anatomy, Biomechanics, Radiology and Clinical Implications'.
🇬🇧
Prof. Dr. Steven Claes is a knee and sports surgeon at AZ Herentals (Belgium), where he treats recreational and professional athletes on a daily basis, and holds an appointment as Associate Professor at KU Leuven University. He has specific expertise in “paediatric” cruciate-ligament surgery in children.
Professor Claes became internationally known — and awarded — for his research on the anatomy, biomechanics, and clinical implications of the anterolateral ligament (ALL) of the knee, a previously unrecognized structure that plays a clear supporting role to the anterior cruciate ligament. In 2013, he obtained his PhD in Biomedical Sciences at KU Leuven with the dissertation ‘The Anterolateral Ligament of the Knee – Anatomy, Biomechanics, Radiology and Clinical Implications’. In addition, he has published more than 70 scientific papers in prestigious journals, helping the international orthopaedic community to fully acknowledge the crucial role of the ALL in knee instability associated with anterior cruciate ligament injuries. His current research domain includes, besides ACL/ALL, osteotomy procedures around the knee.
